A RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE 11mm (FRENCH ORDNANCE) DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL '1873 'PROTOTYPE'', serial no. 57,
circa 1873, with semi octagonal 4in. barrel, the right side of the elevated top-flat signed 'ST. ETIENNE', brass cylindrical fore-sight with pinched blade, standing notch rear-sight to the rear of the top-strap, the top-strap with unusual applied brass cover, plain six-shot cylinder, solid frame with sideways hinged (as opposed to rear-wards) loading gate and blued cylinder axis rod tensioning spring, under-barrel ejector similar to the Chamelot Delvigne 1872 model but with exposed ejector rod, chequered walnut two-piece grips, the back-strap with thumb-web spur, applied brass butt-cap with central iron lanyard ring, French ordnance stamps, the whole in the white probably as supplied
